Mark is a Walkley-award winning journalist and former Editor-in-Chief of The Age in Melbourne. He has also worked at Four Corners and Channel Seven, in the Federal and State parliament press galleries and as an overseas correspondent.
Mark brings almost 30 years of success at the highest levels of communications practice to his strategic communications services, including issues management, crisis management, interview coaching and media relations.
Specialising in reputation building communications strategies, he has raised the profile of major companies, guided global manufacturers through controversial issues and assisted CEOs enhance their reputations.
A leader in Australia’s PR and communications industry, Joanne has over 30 years experience across media, strategic communications and public relations.
Formerly a senior journalist with The Age, Joanne now consults on strategic communications, issues and reputation to government and corporate clients nationally.
A digital communications specialist, Joanne brings a deep understanding of digital transformation and how new technology is reshaping citizens’ relationship with brands – and the relationship of brands with their target publics.
Head of Public Relations
Matt Thomas has nearly 20 years of professional experience working in internal and external communications, as well as organisational change projects. IAP2 trained, Matt has extensive capabilities in leading outrage mitigation as well as crisis and issues communication.
Matt has worked at senior levels in government and the private sector, across complex issues ranging from CEO appointments, joint venture announcements through to infrastructure and contamination communications. He has particular experience in minimising negative impacts from complex and challenging situations.
At Icon Matt heads the Public Relations team and works across a range of corporate, finance, government and not-for-profit clients.
Chris is a designer, digital producer and company director with more than 20 years’ experience.
An expert in digital strategy, UX theory and practice, project planning, marketing and brand communications, Chris consults with corporate and government clients to deliver digital transformation and communications strategies, digital products and services, brand and behaviour change campaigns.
Chris is a member of RMIT University’s Digital Media Program Advisory Committee and is a passionate technologist and researcher.
Associate Account Director
Amanda has extensive experience in issues-rich communications programs, recognised with Australian and international communications awards for strategic excellence.
Her clients have ranged from major manufacturers and industry organisations to the public sector. Among these, Amanda led the marketing for global banknote substrate manufacturer CCL, advised property investment group Quintessential Equity, managed change communication for government ICT provider Cenitex and has provided communications and crisis support to Melbourne Polytechnic.
Amanda specialises in taking an all-encompassing view to issues, crises and reputation campaigns, and is adept at aligning internal and external communications messaging.
Shelley is the latest addition to the Icon Reputation team, with an extensive background in strategic communications and public policy. She has worked at the highest levels of state and federal government and most recently in the UK, where she was a Senior Manager in External Affairs for The Careers and Enterprise Company (The CEC), creating job opportunities across disadvantaged areas.
Shelley was an advisor to federal Opposition Leader Bill Shorten for four years. She was in a key advisory and strategic role, including liaison with caucus and social policy portfolios. She then worked as ministerial advisor to Victoria’s Minister for Women and Industrial Relations, responsible for issues management and media liaison.
At The CEC, Shelley worked extensively with British media, business and the education sector, and developed strategic engagement campaigns to inspire and prepare young people for work and shift intergenerational disadvantage. She also oversaw a team which developed a series of videos, blogs and social media campaigns promoting CEC’s work.
